As standard the boats were tiller-steered, but many, as in the case of some of the yachts illustrated here, had wheel steering as an option. Unlike the earlier generation Moodys, which used a lot of exposed GRP and laminate, the Moody 31s have a fairly traditional and 'woody' interior.

Whilst some people prefer wheels, there are considerable advantages to tillers in a yacht of this size, both in terms of "feel" of the helm and in freeing up cockpit space when moored.
