A number of unlawful entry offences have been reported in Jindalee, Sinnamon Park, Riverhills and other Centenary Suburbs over the last week. Multiple arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing to try and identify all the offenders involved. Miraa House is situated in the western suburbs of Brisbane, and is a learning life skills centre for women aged 17 and over with an intellectual disability. The small groups also help the ladies become more independent while building their self-confidence and establishing relationships and connections with the community. Police from Mount Ommaney attend Miraa House each year, to speak with the ladies about the role of police in the community and how to recognise a police officer. They also learn, from police, about the different types of situations where a police officer maybe able to help them. Police also speak about strangers, travelling in cars and public transport along with how to contact police in an emergency. The women especially enjoyed hearing about all the special sections in the Queensland Police Service, but most enjoyed talking about the Dog Squad and Mounted Police unit — I think horses and dogs are very popular with this group. Thanks to the Miraa House ladies for having us and we will be sure to be back next year for another visit.
