They will work of course and reduce the dirt that builds up on the car. If you have winter or all season tyres mud flaps are highly recommended because these type of tyres V shaped tread does make the car twice as dirty as if you drive on standard summer tyres. I have the official Toyota mud flaps. My gut feel is they are reasonably effective.
