Mv agusta dragster 800 rr review

Some memories are indelible.

Bought a brand new highly leftover for a steal last friday. Unfortunately due to rain and side effects of 2nd vaccine shot, didn't get to ride it again until today the next friday. Put on a good number of miles. I guess I should stick to comparing the bike to the MT But I may still compare it to the bikes I've previously owned or ridden which include:.

There are cheaper bikes, more manageable bikes, even faster bikes in the same category but this one is special. And it goes as well as it looks! Twitchy is the word. MV is obviously aware of this and have added a top yoke steering damper. There was never an alarming almighty slap, but I had more than a few twitches on the narrow bumpy Italian roads. My only other gripe was the ride is on the firm side. On smoother roads it worked far better. The old had bags of attitude but was hard work and aggressive. But this engine is a peach. It sounds lovely, revving quickly with aggression. You end up attacking roads not riding them. The finish is outstanding, the paintwork looks handcrafted, the top yoke is lovely. Possibly the ultimate middleweight poster bike. Straight line braking is immense; just grab a handful of lever and let the electronics do all the work.

After escaping the traffic, we headed into the Malibu hills on roads familiar to every L.

Some of their bikes have missed the mark — I throw the uber-expensive Brutale RR and RS machines into the mix here — but others have been pleasantly surprising namely the cc three-cylinder bikes , such as the Brutale and the achingly pretty Superveloce The MV Agusta Dragster RR is very much a Brutale in drag sorry , running the same motor and chassis set-up, but with more relaxed ergonomics, bodywork and wheels whose spokes only extend to the right side of the rear wheel on the single-sided swingarm. Race mode does have a bit of a hit to the throttle at low speed but Sport mode is where I spent almost all of my time and the ride was a pleasant one for the majority of situations encountered over my month with the machine. The engine is for sure the star of the show but the chassis is not far behind, even if the ride quality is a little crude. Despite this, the Dragster turns with almost sublime speed. A short, snappy wheelbase of

With a claimed hp issuing from the cc triple and only pounds claimed dry weight the compact, lightweight machine can carve around any apex with elegance and teeth-baring power. Electronics like an improved ride-by-wire, up-and-down quickshifter, eight-level traction control, and ABS with rear-wheel lift-up mitigation come standard to enhance the ride. Make sure to stock up on knee sliders, because they will be quickly worn thin with this naked middleweight to thank. Updates to the lighting have been made. This includes a single-unit LED taillight and a new integrated light guide in the headlight. A new gearbox has also been implemented for easier lever actuation. The engine is anchored differently to the frame, and primary gears, valve guides, and cam phasing have also been revised. This reportedly uses electronics to match clutch action to the engine delivery curve for better acceleration performance.

The Dragster RR cannibalizes the Brutale pretty heavily for its skin and bones. Its three-cylinder motor that produces a claimed horsepower and 64 lb-ft of torque is present, as is the tubular steel chassis, trademark MV Agusta single-sided swingarm, 43mm Marzocchi fully adjustable front suspension and Sachs monoshock, and the same Brembo four-piston brakes mated to a Nissin master cylinder. So, what is different? The Dragster rolls on gorgeous cast aluminum spoked wheels, with the spokes only attached to the right side of the wheel.

Model history Model introduced based on standard Dragster which had been introduced earlier in I'm starting to understand this bike more now. Rides well but has a hard suspension setup. The fully adjustable suspension, with an inverted 43mm Marzocchi fork and a Sachs shock, is tuned for speed over comfort, but it kept the chassis in check, and the adjustable steering damper diffused any twitchiness. This in my view is quite dangerous and could result in losing an engine, or a car seeing an unintended turn indication and acting accordingly. I don't get the big deal though, only reason why I ever look at it is to glimpse a quick speed check, otherwise it seems fine. Lining up next to Rennie Scaysbrook, the road test editor at Cycle News who holds the motorcycle record at Pikes Peak and is way faster than me, the SCS launch mode let me get the drop on him a couple of times. I'm shifting to 2nd at 40mph 65kmh , and earliest to 3rd is around 50 or so mph 90kmh , which you can see is not a fuel efficient range to be riding at but doing so these past 2 days, the engine is just starting to feel so great. Engine 5 out of 5 Ride by wire is spot on, power delivery is phenomenal and the engine never flinches. My cruising speed was 50mph at 3rd gear. When we tested the MV Augusta Brutale a predecessor to the model under test here , we came away very impressed.

MV Agusta are all about evolution over revolution. For the the Dragster RR looks as bonkers as ever, but it gets a bundle of small mechanical and electronic refinements that significantly improve the way it rides, without taking away any of its old fire-breathing aggression, which is quite a trick.

I feel a motorcycle of this price should come with a proper race-spec radial master-cylinder set-up, and the old-school feel at the lever lets the ride down, somewhat. The bike came with its own battery tender due to the battery placement, and the connector is not the usual pigtail connector found in Asia or the Americas. That said, the Dragster has been caught up slightly by other middleweights on the market. Only corrosion in 20 months and miles is to the front brake bleed nipple, no other problems whatsoever. Instrumentation, controls, feet controls, and technology. Easily ride for miles before a break.
