Spoiler warning: this article contains spoilers for "Narcos" Season 3. The hit Netflix show "Narcos," with three seasons and three more of the ongoing spin-off "Narcos: Mexico," has given audiences a visceral account of the real-life wars of South America's most ruthless and violent drug cartels. From the downfall of Pablo Escobar to the tribulations of the Cali Cartel and the empire building of Miguel Gallardo, the show has maintained the intensity and shock of its very first episodes and remains one of Netflix's most reliably binge-watchable series. Its ongoing longevity is arguably thanks to its creators' deft turn away from Escobar, who was the primary focus and main draw of the first two seasons. The series introduced a set of new principal characters that effectively "reset the chessboard" in the words of Indiewire's Liz Shannon Miller, transforming "Narcos" into an anthology show ready to explore the wider stories of the South American war on drugs in the process. In Season 3, the Cali Cartel's brutal violence is enacted by "El Navegante," a hitman and enforcer based on a real-life killer named Cesar Yusti.

Justice For MJ! Narcos has always been a dramatic show, but in its third season, the series pushed that drama to its limits. Not only did this past season explore the suspicions and betrayals of four very powerful cartel leaders and introduce two new and ambitious DEA agents, but it also brought us the morally conflicted story of Jorge Salcedo. But both of Miguel's raids were wholly accurate. Feistl says the depiction of the death of Miguel's son, David Rodriguez played by Arturo Castrowas accurate in the show.

Jorge "El Navegante" Velasquez? Navegante was sent to infiltrate the Medellin Cartel in at the start of the Cali-Medellin conflict, which was caused by Jose Rodriguez Gacha 's attempts to expand the Medellin Cartel into New York City , turf which had already been claimed by Cali. Navegante's information was put to use by Colonel Horacio Carrillo , who raided Rodriguez's mansion in Cartagena. The Search Bloc captured one of his fleeing guards and interrogated him, leading to the 15 December Tolu raid and the deaths of Rodriguez and his son Fredy Rodriguez Celades. Navegante eventually returned to the Cali Cartel, and he was involved in several murders during the Cali-Medellin war against Pablo Escobar and his Medellin cartel. He was frequently seen as a bodyguard for the Cali bosses Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela , Miguel Rodriguez Orejuela , and Pacho Herrera , and he accompanied Herrera to Miami in early to help in taking the city from Escobar.

Chris ultimately becomes the DEA contact for informant Jorge Salcedo Matias Varela , the head of security for the Cali cartel who risks his life to help the agents capture and fry their biggest fish, Miguel Rodriguez Francisco Denis. In order to get the third season story right, Narcos enlisted the real Chris Feistl to serve as a consultant. Narcos previously had the real Javier Pena and partner Steve Muprhy portrayed by Boyd Holbook consulting on the two-season story of Pablo Escobar and when the show shifted its focus to Cali, Pena and Murphy recommended the showrunners reach out to Feistl. Feistl adds, "All of those things contributed to them then contacting me to give them a little bit of background on Cali. As a result, Feistl, who is now retired, returned to Cali to meet up with the Narcos team for several days to show them the ropes.

The Cali Cartel informant is currently in the witness protection program. On season 3 of Netflix's Narcos , it doesn't take long to realize that one man is at the center of all the action: Jorge Salcedo.
