Buckshot is great against enemies with little to no DT, up to and including Cazadors who they are particularly effective against due to the spread being able to compromie their erratic movement , while slugs, even without Shotgun Surgeon, are better for foes in armor, longer distances, or if you just need to put more damage down per shot.
