The board of trustees is an independent organization, responsible for the ongoing administration of the plan, including investing assets and issuing pension cheques. The board of trustees is composed of ten members, five representatives from OPSEU and five representatives from the government. Government appointments are made by Ministerial Appointment letter. A chair and vice-chair are appointed by the trustees, from among the members. Members will be appointed for a term as determined by their sponsor. OPTrust began operations on January 1, , and is a separate organization from both of its sponsors. It was established to provide pension benefits for employees of the province of Ontario in bargaining units represented by OPSEU and other eligible members. Your first pension payment will be made on the 26th of the month following your date of retirement. For example, if you retire on May 15th your first pension payment for the month of June will be deposited into your bank account on June 26th.
