Osteria da fortunata

The desserts are great. The waiter paired the wine with the food and it was excellent.

Take me back! Mr John and I have a rule that we try not to eat at restaurants that have menus with English, French, Italian and German flags on them. I want real deal action! Osteria Da Fortunata is a family owned restaurant, passed down from generation to generation. What we loved about it was that they had a mama in the window rolling the pasta!

Osteria da fortunata

If you want to eat well in a big city like Rome, it pays to do a little homework before you go. Generally, the restaurants smack bang in amongst the main tourist sights are the most expensive places to eat, and the least authentic. Nothing taints a good holiday more than a bad meal! Especially in Italy! On our last trip to Rome I spent hours and hours researching some prospective restaurants. This little place, Osteria Da Fortunata, came up time and time again, so I decided to book ahead. We found the place easy enough, right off Campo de Fiori, which was a bit of a worry because I find the best restaurants are usually not quite so close to the main piazzas. We turned off the Campo onto Via del Pellegrino to see a woman wearing a bandana and apron, hand rolling pasta inside the front window. She is making Strozzapreti — small worm-like shapes of pasta — with a serious, determined look on her face. The street out front was packed with people, watching her roll our her pasta as they waited to get in. I gently pushed past the throng of people, who are mostly speaking in Italian a good sign, this means the locals eat here and I was even more certain we had found a gem and walked up to the waitress and used my broken Italian to say we have a reservation. Making that booking ahead was a smart thing to do! We had to get the only table sitting next to an American family who were having difficulty trying to explain to the waiter their son had food allergies. No gluten or dairy um.. The waiter is brusque to say the least and not helpful, so I try to translate for her oh God, why did I get involved?

The Arrabiatta was my favorite. The list below shows you how much others users have bid for the respective timeframes.

We visited the restaurant after both research into Romes best restaurants and after a local recommendation. After a short queue of about 20 minutes we were seated outside. The ambience of the restaurant is quaint but very busy and manic and I feel it is I appreciate when people are waiting to experience the food, from a business sense there will be pressure to turn over tables however the whole service felt rushed and not particularly special. Waited knocked into us whilst rushing round, did not ask us if we wanted any more drinks after the first ones were finished and generally neglected us after our initial orders were taken.

Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Please enable JavaScript in your browser settings to continue. I called them direct and made the reservation around 1 week prior. The panna cotta was superb. It is just ok. The waiters are a little…how can I say…impatient. Book ahead to avoid standing outside in the cold. A nice old lady was making all the pasta by hand right by our outdoor table. Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
