P and P Evap System Leak. Thread Tools. It started with my gas cap indicator light on my dash, followed weeks after with a check engine light. I did a LOT of research on these codes and replaced the cheapest and common fixes first. Started with replacing the gas cap twice , replaced the vapor leak detection pump under the truck by the charcoal canister, and replaced the purge solenoid valve under the hood, all of which I replaced myself. After watching countless videos, these replacements typically solved most of the problems that people had with these codes, but not mine. Finally found a different mechanic that seemed more knowledgeable.

Advertiser Disclosure. The EVAP system communicates with the PCM and when there is a vacuum leak in the system, there are one of three codes that can be triggered: P , P , or P depending on the severity of the leak. With a P code, the first step is to get it properly diagnosed to figure out what is causing the malfunction related to the EVAP system. Using the live data function of the FIXD sensor and app allows you to read and analyze engine data to properly diagnose a P code. Many, if not most, shops will apply this diagnosis fee to any required repairs if you have them perform the repairs for you. From there, a shop will be able to give you an accurate estimate for repairs to fix your P code. When it comes to making repairs associated with the P code, one or more of the below repairs may be needed to solve the underlying issue. For each possible repair, the estimated cost of repair includes the cost of the relevant parts and the cost of labor required to make the repair. Complete diagnosis may require some specialized equipment beyond what the FIXD Sensor can provide, but for the most part, this diagnosis and repair can be attempted by beginner DIYers.

As you perform a scan of your Dodge as part of your regular maintenance, you notice the P code pop up. Though these codes are great for categorizing various vehicle issues, they're not very intuitive. When you notice any kind of diagnostic trouble code, your mind might jump to catastrophic scenarios. Is it time to buy a new Dodge model? In this case, you don't have to worry. This code is usually not serious.

P is a somewhat common trouble code with the Dodge Ram. It is similar to P large leak and P small leak. P is normally not an immediate threat to the drive-ability of your Ram.
