Ok, so my intrepid is stumping me hard on this. It will crank and start perfectly fine. Shut it off, sit for a sec, crank and crank. Key off and back on, starts hard but runs perfect. Then it will start fine a few times. I had this issue before vacation, and coming back I jumped in it and it fired right up no hesitation. I moved it and it started right up, this morning, and all it would do is crank.

Although it is a generic code, the specific repair steps may vary depending on the year, make, model, and powertrain configuration of the vehicle. When a code P is stored, it indicates that the powertrain control module PCM has detected an abnormality in the relay that supplies it with voltage. In this case, the relay sensor circuit is open, which can be interpreted as disconnected. It is a contact type relay that is activated by a signal wire from the ignition switch. This type of relay typically has a five-wire design. One wire carries constant battery voltage, another wire is for ground, a third wire carries a signal from the ignition switch, a fourth wire supplies voltage to the PCM, and the fifth wire is the power relay sense circuit. The PCM uses the power relay sense circuit to monitor the voltage of the power relay. If the PCM detects an open power relay sense circuit, it will store a code P and may illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp MIL. A P code should be considered severe and addressed accordingly. Delayed or no start Inoperative electrical accessories Engine drivability issues. You will also need a reliable source of vehicle information that provides diagnostic flow charts, wiring diagrams, connector face views, connector pin-out charts, and component locators. Additionally, you will require component and circuit testing procedures and specifications. All of this information is necessary for a successful diagnosis of a code P Start by connecting the scanner to the vehicle diagnostic port and retrieving all stored codes and freeze frame data.

I'm wondering if there might be an issue with my starter. If the wiring and connectors appear to be functional, use your vehicle information source to obtain the appropriate wiring diagrams, connector face views, connector pin-out charts, p0688 chrysler, and diagnostic flow charts.

P is a relatively rare OBD2 trouble code. While any car or truck can have this code, it is most prevalent in vehicles made by Chrysler. If your vehicle is still running with this code, we strongly recommend against driving with it. If the PCM power relay fails, your vehicle will not run properly. They stand for engine control module and powertrain control module, respectfully. When you have P, it has detected an open circuit.

P is a relatively rare OBD2 trouble code. This includes the Chrysler PT Cruiser. If your PT Cruiser is still running with this code, we strongly recommend against driving with it. If the PCM power relay fails, your vehicle will not run properly. They stand for engine control module and powertrain control module, respectfully. An open circuit is a circuit that has not been completed.

Check it before a good startup. Nothing major. Maybe that had something to do with this but that is just a guess as to what may have happened. I would even start it with the relay jumped, and then check the grounding terminal A11 with the engine is running. Posting Quick Reply - Please Wait. However, if the code fails to reset and there are no drivability symptoms, the vehicle can be operated normally. Not sure what this tells me? I think this issue is upstream the asd relay. But, thinking about the code, I found that the ASD circuit ran through a relay in the under hood fuse box. At this point I will check all of the wiring for the oxygen sensors, replace the sensors that I ordered, check the ground wire in the PDC and follow it all the way up to the PCM, and take it from there. Its been there 2 months now i'm currently deployed , they finally get a new TCM since they were on back ordered and Dodge recalled the ones they had out initially. If the Star Scan can't tell them what's wrong they don't have the problem solving skills to do it on their own.

If this happens to your ride, we get your concern, but the key piece of advice is not to drive around too much with the code and figure out a solution quickly.

Consult your vehicle information source for any technical service bulletins TSB that match the stored code, vehicle year, make, model, and engine , and exhibited symptoms. Test fuses and fusible links with the circuit loaded to avoid misdiagnosis Professional Service While we always recommend seeking professional mechanical assistance to resolve this issue, if that is not possible, we offer the option to permanently delete this specific DTC. If you search those codes you will find a lot of info but I think when getting all 4 the solution will most always be a PCM replacement. Please consider creating a new thread. Also, I didn't buy my car from this dealer I am having it serviced at When energized, the ASD relay provides power to operate the injectors, ignition coil, generator field, O2 sensor heaters both upstream and downstream , EGR solenoid and PCV heater if equipped and also provides a sense circuit to the PCM for diagnostic purposes.
