Private is a main character in the Madagascar franchise. Before he was born, Private as an egg was presumably abandoned by his parents. According to Operation Penguin , Private's father's name is Sam Fishy; however, his mother's name is unknown. His egg was eventually buried in a snowbank and began rolling down a hill, knocking down three penguin children, Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico. Skipper, not willing to let a defenseless egg get smashed goes to save it but ends up making it fall down a cliff.

He's the only penguin who's ever disobeyed Skipper twice in one episode. Private is a short and chubby penguin. He has a white face with two round eyes and an orange beak. He has black skin except for his stomach area that is white. He has a small tail black and white, two penguin arms black and white and two orange small feet with three toes on each. He was born in front of his older brothers, who adopted him. Despite some mistakes and misadventures with the rest of the penguins, Private loves them a lot. Even in the movie, Madagascar Skipper states that it is unlikely that Private will survive when they go off to fight the fossa. In the movie, he was not actually treated well by Skipper because Private, at first, couldn't get the password for the ship correct.

When Private learns that the Peanut Butter Winkies are going out of production, he urges a raid on the factory and Skipper is so impressed he lets him command the mission. The penguins initate a snack run in the city's convenience store. After finding out that the factory that makes Peanut Butter Winkies is shutting down, the penguins, of course, freak out, especially Private, who refuses to let them shut down the factory without a few more boxes of Winkies. Unfortunately, King Julien eats the last box known to man. Impressed by the passion, Skipper lets Private be in charge of the operation to reclaim the boxes still at the Winky Factory. From the start, things going haphazardly after Private lets Rico go after Marshmeow-Meows pink cat-shaped marshmallows , that make him go crazy. The team bind him and keep going with the operation but Rico still on a sugar rush kicks Kowalski into some sticky candy that's also being lifted up by a crane prepared to being sat on the rolling band. Private's missing the Winkies and helps Kowalski who then falls into a box of candy corn, which stick to his head. On the track again, the team is floating on the marshmallow river with Private and Skipper in the lead and Kowalski tries to handle Rico, who hits him with a lollipop causing Kowalski to fall into the river.
