The victim told neighbors who rushed to help him that he was shot by two men he knows and that they were driving a Volkswagen Polo, the neighbors told newspaper AD. Neighbor Jan Wilke told the newspaper that he heard three gunshots. He first called emergency number and then rushed outside. Hij had als curator eerder aangifte gedaan tegen de mede-eigenaar van de failliete sportschool vanwege faillissementsfraude, bedrieglijke bankbreuk en schending van de informatieplicht. De jarige dader, die 23 jaar cel heeft gekregen, is ook veroordeeld voor een beschieting van de betreffende sportschool, enkele weken voor de aanslag op Schol, terwijl er binnen mensen waren.
