Evans Cycles house brand Pinnacle has earned a reputation for sensible, smartly-specced bikes that offer considerable value pinnacle dolomite money. When we tested its Dolomite Six init impressed us with its cheerful versatility and solid Shimano build, pinnacle dolomite. Our one real criticism was of its sub-standard Tektro rim brakes, so the fact that this year's Dolomite 5 gets similar kit along with proper hydraulic discs is very promising.
Retail giant Evans Cycles is celebrating 10 years of its Pinnacle bike brand with some limited-edition machines. Evans has maintained the outgoing Ultegra-level RS hydraulic shifters, and added custom mudguards and built-in lights, powered by a front hub dynamo. The stays wrap around the long, flapless mudguards, reducing your chances of toe overlap. The bike dynamo hub adds around g, the lights and wiring a little more, but none is rotational mass. The Pinnacle-branded stem, seatpost and saddle are fine, the FSA bar too, although I found the mm stem length and overall reach a little shorter than I normally prefer. The front Alex rim is rebuilt around the Son thru-axle hub dynamo, and whether due to quick-release and thru-axle rigidity differences, my Novatec hub-mounted rear disc rotor rubbed on most climbs while standing. Measuring 24mm externally, the Alex rims spread the Schwalbe Pro One 28mm tyres out to 30mm, adding extra floaty air volume and a generous grip patch.

That's a first among the bikes we've had in for review. It's a pretty likeable machine, too, which could certainly serve as a commuter or winter bike, and rides well enough to be an enjoyable companion for all-day outings. It ticks the practicality boxes, too, with mudguard and rear rack compatibility, and also has some unexpected modern touches such as internal cable routing. Pinnacle is Evans' in-house brand, and it describes the Dolomite as a "road bike that's designed for UK road conditions". It's fairly tall at the front, with a mm head tube, and what Pinnacle describes as "a fine-line between a more upright sportive bike and a performance bike". When I think about what characterises UK riding, the things that spring to mind are poor road surfaces, crap weather and inconsiderate drivers. With space for up to 28mm tyres, fittings for proper mudguards and those brakes, you've certainly got a good starting point.

Commuting, fast group rides, all weathers and big distances when the need arises… Pinnacle reckons the Dolomite 6 can do it all. The heat-treated aluminium alloy tubing is double and triple-butted for optimum strength-to-weight. Buy the Pinnacle Dolomite 6 from Evans Cycles now. A mm head tube is matched to a sloping round-profiled top tube that provides a standover height of mm — plenty for all but the shortest of legs, in this the smallest frame size available. The angle of the top tube makes for a compact rear triangle, which should make the most of power inputs. Rangy chainstays, however, provide an amount of give in the set-up, boosting the comfort levels available.
As a reasonably heavy bike with big, heavy 26c Kenda tyres, it takes a fair dollop of power to get it going. This puts acceleration on the eventual rather than effervescent side of the line, and on more cut-and-thrust group rides whoever was on the Pinnacle was soon at the back of the pack. While the frame tubes are double butted and the fatter, thicker tyres can be run at lower pressure without increasing puncture or pothole-flat risk, the overall ride character is definitely durable rather than delicate. This allows for confident complacency on less than good road surfaces in terms of mechanical survival, but the parts of you that meet the bars and saddle are going to get some serious tenderising if you ride on the rough stuff for too long. The ride position and handling take some getting used to as well.

In all, the Dolomite One is a solid, stable performer. In both aesthetic and performance terms, it's probably the least striking machine here, but that's not always a bad thing. As a reliable, efficient, general-use bike, it'll do you proud.

Matthew Loveridge. I've had my fill of creaky press-fit bottom brackets, so this gets a big thumbs up for me. Upgrades to the brakes over the 4 instantly allowing the 5 to shine, while the frame allowed us to get comfy from the off and settle into a fatigue-free test ride. The full carbon fork is no more, an alloy-steerered one in its place, while the slick crankset has lost out to a less posh, but perfectly serviceable, FSA unit. It looks much better in the flesh as well as it's for use as a winter bike as the lanes around here Stogursey are awful when wet. It's possible with the right set plus the right rim and tyre you could squeeze them in. The RS units are perhaps not quite as comfortable as the RSs but they're not bad at all. This isn't a bike for sprinting but it's certainly sprightly enough for chaingang duties. We don't expect premium levels of refinement or race-bike stiffness at this price, but it's a solid all-rounder that won't beat you senseless over potholes or sap your enthusiasm on the climbs.
