Sharing gaming experiences and opinions and discussing them with others makes up a huge part of the gaming community. There's a host of ways that players can interact with like-minded folk online, whether that's through easy-to-set-up streaming channels, dedicated forums, or social media platforms. Unfortunately, PlayStation fans who enjoy using X, or Twitter as it was formerly known, received some disappointing news recently when Sony announced that it was removing integration of the popular social media platform from its consoles. The company followed suit after Microsoft also dropped support for the social media platform from its Xbox consoles in April, leaving Nintendo as the only one of the big three console manufacturers to continue its integration. PlayStation's announcement stated, "As of November 13, , interaction with X formerly known as Twitter will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. The gaming community is huge on the social media platform, with many players regularly enjoying sharing and discussing their favorite games, so this news is highly disappointing. Although it won't prevent players from sharing captures on the social media platform, it does add several more steps, making the whole process more complicated and time-consuming, which is a frustration for fans. Given that PlayStation's captures can be shared via other means, it seems likely that Sony didn't want to keep paying out for something they deemed largely unnecessary. Furthermore, directing players to the PlayStation app, which will become the easiest way to share captures, is only a good thing for Sony who can advertise and see more traffic through its own official communications. Thankfully, using the PlayStation app to share captures is actually a very straightforward process that's often preferred by fans anyway. Given how clunky and awkward it feels to type longer captions using the PlayStation UI and a controller, many players already opt to share their favorite captures via the app, which allows them to type with much more ease using a mobile device or keyboard. To get started, players will first need to download the official PlayStation app, then head to "Settings" and select the option to "Link Console to App," before following the on-screen instructions to connect the two. Next, select "Library," then "Captures" in the app, and click "Enable" to automatically upload captures to the cloud. From here, they'll be available to view in the app automatically for 14 days.
