Before you begin, please take a few minutes to read through this section. Because of the sheer amount of information included on each page, special attention has been paid to the layout of the tables and images in this guide. Maximize your browser as wide as possible in order to see the pages the way they were intended. Some pages will simply not display correctly in smaller widths. You will find a map of each area of the game in that area's section. In the cases where they are too wide, they have been shrunk to allow room for other useful information.

A large amount of maps were archived in the source code, albeit with a lot of them being subject to what was either corruption, or incorrect parameters. Despite this, these maps give us an incredibly informative glimpse regarding how the region of Kanto evolved over time. The earliest known iteration of Kanto, which appears to date back to around While the overworld layout had already been established, many of the routes at this point are just blank roads, and several cities have practically nothing interesting in them. The tileset used is also much simpler and cruder than in later iterations, with perspective namely being amiss, and the art style being radically different. The Makai Toushi SaGa inspiration is on full force here. Though in surprisingly good shape, this early Kanto does however contain instances of maps using the wrong blocks. The first one is a building chunk with "CVS" sign on it, which, given its placement, was likely a duplicate of block 1A that was later overwritten. The second is less clear, but may have been a duplicate of block The third block was definitely where the "CVS" block was meant to be used. As for the fourth block, it is unique to the north-most mall building in Vermilion City, and was likely a scrapped wall type. Only contains two small buildings, meaning that Professor Oak's lab is absent, with him either living with his family, or having his lab in another city. The map is also surrounded by water on all sides, instead of just having a beach to the south. Trees also border the town, as opposed to the final games' bollards. Tall grass is also found inside the town, as well as a few other cities throughout Kanto, though it's likely they were just purely decorative weeds.
Only the fourth and farthest door would lead to progress. Anne 4. Pretty much identical to final, though lacking the tall grass and featuring an extra house, likely the entrance to the unused Route Underground Path.

This walkthrough aims to be as thorough as possible. If you're doing a speedrun or are just playing the game casually and don't care about exploring everything it has to offer, this is possibly not the guide for you. When it comes to battle strategies, this guide assumes that you have no outside help regarding trading with other cartridges. It also assumes that you are playing the game legitimately—that is, not using the help of any glitches or cheating devices. Having said that, useful or easily performed glitches will be pointed out throughout the guide which you can use at your discretion. The main body of the walkthrough will be written in unformatted text which should succinctly give you directions on where to go and what to do.

Enter the league's front door to find yourself in the rocky cavern known as Victory Road. The trick here is to push the loose boulders onto the round switches to open up new paths. You must open the path to ladder D on the second floor. This leads to ladder E, which leads to the exit.

Namespaces File Discussion. While it lacks any hint of a Safari Zone, the northern half of town is oddly opened-up, which would made sense as a previous Kanto layout had a route north of town. Now much closer to the final version, though with way more signs, a trait shared with a few other areas. The grouping of the maps in the final games was likely done to save space, as at one point, the S. A completely different earlier iteration of Route 23, with it appearing as a winding mountain path which would explain the final area it leads to being called a "plateau" which lacks any sort of water, man-made structures, or even Victory Road. My vote goes for Squirtle -- but before you make your choice, click on all three names and read up on their advantages and disadvantages. Which one should you choose? You cannot overwrite this file. The visible layout, however, does appear almost identical to final, though with fewer ledges, a paved road, and more tall grass. A clearing sits where Viridian Forest normally lies, and the entrance to Diglett's Cave is quite larger. A scrapped map only referred to as NIWA.
Rock Tunnel is the only way to get from Route 10 to Lavender Town.

Bizarrely, the warps take you to the final version of this map. For whatever reason, the map width and height are both one block larger than the final version, but the extra space isn't used for anything. The map row which featured the stairs was removed entirely in the final games, causing a graphical issue at the bottom of the map due to its height not being updated. It didn't come with any exterior blocksets or tilesets, and using the ones from the final games renders most areas as almost completely undecipherable. While it doesn't follow the typical naming conventions, the script file suggests the map's filename was changed. Don't worry, not all is lost. There is also sign data for this map, though for some reason it is found in the exact same spot as the elevator. Drawn from File:Tojoh blank. Views View Edit History.
