It's hard to believe, but it's been over 25 years since Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers first debuted in While actors were hired to play the teenagers in Power Rangers, the actual ranger scenes were typically repurposed from the Japanese series. It was a formula that saved him and money, as far as creating a kids show goes, and it worked. Since then, over the course of 22 different versions of the superpowered team--if you include the short-lived Alien Rangers--the franchise has continued to reinvent itself again and again. With those reinventions, obviously, come new teams of rangers tasked with saving the planet, galaxy, timeline, or whatever else they're in charge of.

In the universe of Power Rangers the Zords are colossal bio- mechanical robots. Some are sentient while others are just piloted machines. When monsters grow to incredible sizes the only way the Power Rangers can fight them is by summoning and piloting these enormous war machines. Usually this will happen towards the end of every episode. The Zords come in many different forms. Some take the form of animals, both current, mythical, and extinct. Some of them are humanoid in appearance, such as the Shogunzords and Super Zeo Zords. Others simply look like giant vehicles or other traditional machines examples include the Turbozords , Time Flyers , and Delta Runners. When individual Zords are inadequate for the task, they can join together into a more powerful form usually a humanoid robot called a Megazord. Other examples include the Quantasaurus Rex and the Omegamax Cycle. Each set is based on the Mecha from the connected Super Sentai series.

While the movie may be new, the Power Rangers franchise has been running for more than 20 years and we've seen dozens of Zords already. The show is rather loose with its own canon and offers little in terms of concrete comparisons or ways to measure the power of the various zords. So in order to compile this list, we relied on a variety of factors including longevity, versatility, and simply how impressive the Zords appeared to be. It's far from a perfect system, but it does give us something to go on other than the rule of cool. Most of the time, the five Zords would solely be used to form the Megazord, but there were occasions where the T-Rex Zord was forced to fight on its own. While never as powerful as the Megazord or rarely, if ever, capable of defeating monsters on its own, it was always really impressive to see it stand on its own. Admittedly, part of the reason it got so much screen time was solely due to the way it was made. Its bipedal design made it easier to work as a solo Zord than most of the others.

The BOOM! Studios Power Rangers ongoing series introduced an all-new Green Ranger who earned the stripes originally worn by Tommy Oliver. Due to the nature of time and space being twisted after the events of Shattered Grid , the comic series was given free rein to introduce new elements never-before-seen in the television show. Beginning in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 55 and throughout the earliest issues of the following Mighty Morphin series, there is a mystery surrounding the identity of the new Green Ranger recruited by Mighty Morphin's most controversial leader , Grace Sterling. Eventually, the mysterious Green Ranger's identity is revealed to be Matthew Cook, a friend and classmate of the Rangers with an understandably vested interest in their superhero lives. As an original character created for the comics, the name may not stand out to longtime viewers unfamiliar with the comics, but even before he becomes a Ranger, he earns his stripes as a hero. Once he is a Ranger, he proves why he deserves his Morpher. Introduced in the Go Go Power Rangers series, Matthew is kidnapped by Rita Repulsa and replaced by her shapeshifter Putty on Earth, while she tries to squeeze intel about the Rangers out of him.
