The PPS was created in response to the Soviet Red Army putting out a call for a compact and lightweight weapon with similar accuracy and projectile energy to the PPSh submachine gun widely deployed at the time. They wanted something that was cheaper and easier to produce than the PPSh, as well as having a lower rate of fire to make the weapon more controllable.

Will they fix it like it was before they nerfed them for no reason and no one really ueses them anymore and before the stg was the best weapon for mid that germany had and now its kinda crap. I totally agree, I used to do great with the Sturm, but after this update there is noticable changes that make the gun worse Well, the StG hasn't really changed for me. However, I did notice that the PPS43 is a little bit more shaky. But, how was the StG better at mid range then the MG42? Seems to me my MG42 is more accurate then the StG ever was. Well the StG has more recoil, but more controlable recoil. Ie: its more accurate for a bigger kick vertically. I pick both up whenever I can. Idk what it will be nerfed but im sure it will. Out of curiousity, what was nerfed on the PPS? I haven't used mine since the last build. Can is still 3 hit kill with damage mods? By reducing the damage, the weapon becomes more on par with the other SMG's and this will further balance the game.

The design required fewer man hours to produce, less metal waste, less material to produce, and must be lightweight. The PPS was found to be incredibly lightweight, reliable, accurate, and maneuverable when compared to the other designs. The PPS series however exclusively used 35 round stick magazines, had a folding stock, and eventually a safety by the trigger guard. Soviet firearms of the period where the epitome of simple, cheap, easy to produce, easy to use, and easy to maintain. The PPS series of sub machineguns arguably fit this mold better than any other firearm of the day. Therefore, PPSs were not to be produced in factories under the Commissariat of Armament and had to be produced elsewhere. Due to the PPS design being primarily stamped metal it was relatively easy for factories that had produced other stamped metal goods to begin producing weapons instead. Thus, both submachine guns were produced in tandem.

By Frank Iannamico Prior to the outbreak of World War II, the Soviets had several of their weapon designers working on a suitable submachine gun for the army. However, during , a decision was made to terminate development and pull all existing submachine guns from service. Although the Soviets initially thought the submachine gun had little military value, they would field more of the weapons than any other country during World War II. The PPSh 41 was deemed satisfactory for the infantry, but a more compact design was needed for tank crewmen and troops whose function was to support the infantry. However, the primary consideration was for a weapon that required less raw materials and labor hours to manufacture. In , as the German invasion troops were advancing across Russia, Soviet weapon designers were faced with developing a submachine gun that was lighter, had a slower cyclic rate than the PPSh 41, and was fabricated primarily from pressed sheet metal. A rectangular-shaped receiver was fabricated from pressed steel. The PPSh 42 had a wooden or metal folding buttstock that was detachable and a rear pistol grip. A short sheet metal ventilated shroud covered a portion of the barrel to serve as a foregrip.
