The department is staffed by licensed Texas peace officers. To achieve this protection, PVAMU Police Department maintains proactive preventative and emphasis patrols to deter and detect crime, report fires and safety hazards, and control traffic on campus. It is truly an institution of the first class with a community made up of different people, rich cultures, and strong historical backgrounds. While our main priority is providing the safest environment for our stakeholders, we also have a commitment to establishing positive relationships with our community, and further, broadening our concept of what community means. This is in deference to the fact that the things that PVAMU impacts extend well beyond our campus borders. Within two miles of the main campus, approximately two thousand PVAMU students live in the surrounding community.
