He is a sleeping deity who has the power to make his dreams effect reality around him and responsible for creating the Glade of Dreams, alongside most of its inhabitants. Polokus was born when various Lums focused their energy to create a single powerful being who could make anything he desired through his thoughts and dreams. Using his powers, Polokus began to dream up inhabitants for a world made sustainable by Lum's energy called the Glade of Dreams. His first creations were the Nymphs and Teensies; both of whom had important roles to play within the Glade.

Polokus , also known as the Bubble Dreamer , [1] is a divine being and a major character in the Rayman series. Said to be the spirit of the world, he created the Glade of Dreams and its inhabitants through the sheer power of his dreams. Unfortunately, his nightmares also have a life of their own: according to the manual of Rayman Origins , during his First Bad Dream , he spawned Jano , introducing evil into the Glade. Legend tells that Polokus' wife was the Muse of the poets , and that their children are the Teensies. In Rayman 2 , he appears as a pale, squat, somewhat amphibious creature with long, spindly arms and very short legs. He stands atop a stone column designed as a receptacle for the Four Masks of Polokus , and wears a pair of blue-green trousers with a golden buckle and a magician's hat identical to Jano 's. This may be Polokus' true form. He no longer wears his trousers, has a long ginger beard, similar to those of the Fakirs , and wears a pair of sunglasses that only reveals his white pupils. He has a bubble -blowing pipe, which he uses to convert his dreams to reality. At one point in the development of Rayman Origins , the Bubble Dreamer was intended to appear in various forms throughout the game, such as a tree and a rock, with only the bubble pipe providing visual continuity between his avatars. However, this idea was ultimately dropped for reasons unknown; instead the Bubble Dreamer stays in the Snoring Tree for the entire game, and never changes his form. In the final game, it is not clear whether the Bubble Dreamer has shape-shifting abilities at all.

The Four Masks of Polokus are a group of magical masks that appear in Rayman 2. Long ago, the god Polokus left the Glade of Dreams , but first he created the four masks and hid them away in secret Sanctuaries. When Rayman rescues Ly the Fairy near the beginning of the game, she relates the story of the Polokus , telling him that he must retrieve the four masks if they are to have any hope of defeating the Robo-Pirate army. Each Sanctuary is protected by a Guardian, who was instructed by Polokus to ward off any intruders that attempt to steal them. The fourth mask is not protected by a Guardian in most versions, and is instead found by a helpful baby Globox in the Iron Mountains. When Rayman approaches these pillars, a beam of energy connects his symbol with one of the ones on the pillar, causing the pillar to open, and the Mask to rise out of it for Rayman to collect.

The First Bad Dream was a legendary incident that occurred early in the history of the Glade of Dreams and led to the creation of Rayman. The Glade was a world created through the dreams of the god Polokus , also known as the Bubble Dreamer: a being so powerful that his every thought and desire became reality. The stuff of Polokus's dreams are the small pink creatures known as Electoons. Unfortunately Polokus's nightmares can also take on a life of their own. One day, Polokus suffered his first bad dream, and begot a foul and ferocious creature that had never been seen before: Jano. This monster spawned hundreds of Antitoons of all shapes and sizes — these creatures are the stuff of nightmares, and the opposite of Electoons.
