The facility at Raymond Terrace was developed by Port Stephens Council and sub-contracted to waste management company Suez. The process itself is extremely robust. While Raymond Terrace was the first in Australia, a number of other locations around the country, including Cairns, have since developed similar co-composting facilities. The first step in the process is Port Stephens households putting their garbage, excluding recycling, into their red-lidded kerbside bin.
