This past August I was presented with a tough choice: keep mountain biking, or go skiing in New Zealand with the Blister crew. While our time in New Zealand was characterized by rossignol soul 7 2012 lot of great skiing, we also encountered some challenging, variable conditions. And the Soul 7 skied really well for me each time out.

Great, versatile choice, offering good grip on hardpack, some float in soft snow, and easy turn initiation and transitions. The all-new 7 Series combines some of the latest and greatest technology ultimately dishing out some incredible powder skis. The Rossignol Soul 7 is the quintessential ski for guys looking to get away from the lift and into deeper pow. This ski combines a super-light wood called Paulownia, blended with a honeycomb design for reinforcement and torsional rigidity. The cm Soul 7 weighs grams, while the cm Sick Day weights grams, and I found the Sick Day to handle chop a little better than the Soul 7.

The most dynamic and versatile of the group is the Rossignol Soul 7. You will hear a lot of chatter around the internet that this is Rossignol's "new S3", which is somewhat true The Soul 7 is designed to have reduced swing weight and less overall poundage. Rossignol does this by introducing a honeycomb technology in the tip and tail of the skis visually these are really cool, just shine a light underneath the honey-comb areas and you'll know I'm talking about. They call this technology "Air Tip" and it provides the Soul 7 with exceptional floatation in softer snow, as well as the ability to quickly initiate tight turns. Powder Turn Rocker, sandwich sidewall construction and light-weight wood core, give the Soul 7 torsional strength and added float through pow and heavy spring conditions. The first thing I noticed about the Soul 7 was that they were surprisingly lightweight.

Versatile, maneuverable, effortless, light. But in my first four days on this ski, the Soul 7 exhibited no quirky behavior, and no surprises or hinge points in its flex pattern. It feels really well designed, in that its individual parts camber profile, shape, flex pattern, rocker lines, splay, etc. A lot of skiers across a wide range of ability levels are going to have a lot of fun on this ski this season. But one of the most impressive things about the S3 was how broad of a range of skiers it could serve, from beginners to experts, and the same is true of the Soul 7. As you can see in the rocker profile photos on the last page of this review, the Soul 7 has a good bit of camber underfoot, and the ski exhibited good edge hold and carved well when conditions were the least bit soft.

One of our favorite skis to take out on a deep powder day, the Rossignol Soul 7 HD W is also incredibly competent in all other snow conditions. The tapered tip and tail shape make this ski easy to bring around in most environments and make it surprisingly quick for its girth. The Soul 7, despite its attributes elsewhere, is most at home in deeper snow and off-piste. This ski could certainly become an excellent one-ski quiver for a woman who is also most comfortable in variable terrain, but who wants something which offers a kick on-piste as well. This was one of the arenas in which Rossignol really upped their game and caused us to choose this ski as the Editors' Choice.

Hi Dana, thank you for this 2nd review! Not a lot of high speed charging in open terrain. In pockets of wind-deposited pow, the Soul 7 was great—it felt like it had far more flotation than its mm waist would suggest. Thanks again for the awesome site — I check at least daily for any new reviews! I primarily ski in UT. Get exclusive offers, info, and coupons. Or would you recommend something else? Check out my review of the Wailer RP. So, my feeling is this — if you like to make a lot of shorter-radius turns, the Soul 7 will work well for you. My current daily driver skis are Volkl Bridge cm and my powder skis are Volkl Chopsticks. I really appreciated your descriptions as well as your opinions.

Rossignol has been a leading ski manufacturer for…well, for forever. They've been cranking out high-performance skis since your grandpa was slaying the gnar. The Soul 7 HD is no different, and after reading raving reviews about them, we decided to give the Soul 7s a shot ourselves.

The soft snow and powder performance was spot on with the reviews. I always felt in control and skiing comfortably, regardless of whether I was pushing hard or making lazy turns. With that in mind, and also as I state in the review, I did my research by talking to a Rossignol athlete to find where he and other team skiers were riding them, and where Sage had rode them before leaving Rossi. I would, however, definitely enter it in a one ski quiver competition. I know an Alta patrolman who loved them and is about your size and a very strong skier. I am 6' tall and lbs. Product Details. I do not like the feeling of too long skis. You should upgrade or use an alternative browser. I am currently on a pair of cm stiff full camber armada el reys.
