ACT government rejects calls from former top prosecutor Shane Drumgold to partially redact report into the prosecution of Bruce Lehrmann. The ACT government says it will not redact parts of the report into the prosecution of former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann after a judicial review found that communications between a journalist and the head of the inquiry "gave rise to a reasonable apprehension of bias". The three chapters that Mr Drumgold sought to have scratched from the record contain scathing criticisms of the former top prosecutor and his management of the case. Last week, Acting Supreme Court Justice Stephen Kaye found the level of contact between inquiry chair Walter Sofronoff and The Australian journalist Janet Albrechtson meant the adverse findings against Mr Drumgold were affected by an apprehension of bias. But the ACT government said it stood by the recommendations of Mr Sofronoff's report, which are mainly aimed at improving and supporting investigation standards within the Australian Federal Police. It added that the government was considering how to deal with the judicial review's findings and said there would be a response shortly. Mr Lehrmann was tried in the ACT Supreme Court for the alleged rape of Brittany Higgins, but his trial was abandoned because of a juror's misconduct and there were no findings against him. Director of the Centre for Public Integrity, Geoffrey Watson SC, said he believed last week's judicial review meant the adverse findings relating to Mr Drumgold now had "no legal effect". He had already been on leave from his job when the report was leaked, after he gave evidence at the inquiry where he backed down on key allegations, including that there had been political interference in the investigation, saying he had changed his view after reading police submissions.
