Upon installing the slide back onto the frame, I ran into a problem in that the slide would not go back far enough to engage the slide lock.

I didn't really pay special attention to the recoil spring taking it apart but noticed upon reassembly that there is a closed end that has a couple of coils that lay flat and on the other end the coil is just cut off or open but is flat. My question is, does anybody know what end goes against the end of the guide rod or which end is inserted into the slide before compressing the spring and guide rod? Does it matter?
