The SIIMA Awards has kick-started in Dubai, and the Kannada film audiences would have been eagerly looking forward for the second day of the event, which would honour the talents as well as the movies of Sandalwood that went on to etch a place in the minds of the audiences in the year The previous year witnessed the arrival of some big hits and critically appreciated Kannada movies and hence, the competition at the award circuits so far has been intense and interesting. It was Puneeth Raajkumar's blockbuster movie Raajakumara that bagged the maximum number of nominations with the film making an entry in 11 different categories. Similarly, Kannada movie Chamak, which was one of the most appreciated movies of , is closely behind, with the film bagging nearly 9 nominations. Chamak was one of the biggest successes of the year The theme song from the blockbuster movie Raajakumara was an equally big success. The song Chanda Chanda from the movie Anjaniputra was one of the top songs of the previous year. Raajakumara had some excellent songs set to tune by V Harikrishna. Popular actor Tharun Sudhir did make an impressive debut as a film-maker with the movie Chowka. Raajakumara, the film starring Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead role was one of the biggest hits of the year

It's no secret that was a splendid and eventful year for fans of Tamil cinema. They were treated to some good films and mind-blowing performances. On one hand, big names such as Vijay and Sivakarthikeyan delivered the goods and proved their mettle. On the other hand, the likes of Vijay Sethupathi and newcomer Aditi Balan too struck gold at the box office. The year also saw Nayanthara deliver a rocking performance in Aramm and prove that she is a 'Lady Superstar'.
