No, you know what? Too High. I think that this is an extraordinary record with a powerful hook that is sung absolutely beautifully. Richie MacDonald is, mercifully, a better singer than Gary LeVox: Can you imagine the utter horror of Rascal Flatts, the heirs apparent to this kind of pop-country bombast, trying to sell this exact song? This Too Low ranking reflects that. Too Low. KJC: Willie has three solo records and two duets with Waylon in the top ZK: Granted, Shelton is capable of elevating mere filler material, and this was a big hit for reasons that basically had nothing to do with the song in question or its quality. Because both of his top entries are wildly overranked. KJC: Ridiculously catchy, but also quite formulaic. JK: Do you, though? ZK: Alabama at their hookiest is pure ear-candy, and I got nothing bad to say about this one.

As part of a month-long promotion, satellite radio station Sirius is sponsoring a countdown of what it considers to be the top 1, country-and-western songs in music history. The list has already been played once this month and the countdown will be replayed and continued through the end of the month on Channel 4 among its hundreds of offerings. Some critics already are blasting the list as leaning away from traditional country classics and featuring too many modern songs. How-the-fuck-ever: That his highest entry is at 20 is, as so many things about this list have been, an affront to most of the things I value about country music. About Right in an absolute sense. Still feels a little Too Low , though, especially as his highest-ranked song. Too High. KJC: Songs like this feel over the top until life itself goes over the top. About Right. McGraw emotes the hell out of it, as is his wont, which overcomes some of its limitations, but nowhere near enough to have it ranked here. Far Too High. That was neat. KJC: My parents loved this song.

This is such a nothing of a song that Rucker sings fine enough, but it is utterly inconsequential. ZK: All-wrong. ZK: I, too, can actually think of a few singles of theirs that belong about here. And this is, undoubtedly, the best version of this infectious little number. But top ? Too High. KJC: This was an enormous radio hit and helped power the duo to their first Entertainer of the Year trophies, even if its host album continued the trend of selling a million units less than its predecessor. Definitely belongs on the list, but this is Too High.
