The PS-HX is a relatively conventional unsuspended belt-drive design with electronic speed adjustment and a built-in switchable moving-magnet phono stage. The platter is interesting in that it is partially recessed into the plinth reducing the thin profile even further. The tonearm is slightly unusual for a deck of Japanese origin in that it uses a straight arm tube and fixed headshell, both of which are more readily identified as European traits. This comes equipped with a moving-magnet cartridge that has more than a passing resemblance to a Grado design, but is completely free of any markings. The arm has no VTA adjustment, but does come with both an adjustable counterweight and anti-skate to allow for the fitting of another cartridge if required. The plinth is 30mm-thick MDF, which Sony claims gives it impressive resistance to external interference.

This is a good turntable ONLY if you are not willing to upgrade it. If you intend to change the cartridge do NOT buy it. The cartridge cables are made of poor quality and they disconnect from the pin very easily. This is a great turntable when compared against most of the modern, affordable options. Of course, the cartridge is very important as mentioned in the other reviews, and it isn't the most audiophile friendly in this regard, but I have now installed a fantastic Audio-Technica AT-F7 moving coil cartridge, and it does a nice job. Hello, Similar to nicoladinisio I was also able to put on the 2m Blue cartridge on this table - there seem to be only on position that the cartridge would fit in the head shell , however, the alignment was a bit off. I ended up using a 1mm spacer between the head shell and the 2m Blue - this way I'm able to articulate and align the cartridge properly. Since there are no VTA adjustment, I'm using slightly thinner mat to compensate the spacer.
