Other villains—most notably the Hobgoblin—have also patterned their villainous identities after the Green Goblin. Spider-Man battled the eight-limbed villain multiple times, and like the Green Goblin before him, Octavius cheated death on more than one occasion to bedevil the world—and his spidery adversary—anew. Kraven also replaced his foe for a short time, but lost his own life at the end of the twisted trail. The threat of Venom began when an alien parasite arrived on Earth as a replacement costume found on a far-off world by Spider-Man. Strong ties to family and friends have seen Spider-Man through his ongoing trials and tribulations and provided him with a lifeline when things seemed darkest.
