Guys, what if I were to tell you that there was an entire island in the Mississippi River that was once actually used by local residence, equipped with baseball fields, small buildings and a playground, would you believe me? I thought this was total bull There's actually an abandoned island in the Mississippi River by St. Cloud State University called Sportsman's Island. I had lived in St. Cloud my entire life without ever hearing about this mysterious plot of land. One of our interns mentioned it in casual conversation and puzzled, I asked, "what are you talking about.

Once a common way to spend a lazy afternoon on a popular island on the Mississippi River south of St. Dave Melby is a longtime St. Cloud resident who lives near Sportsman's Island. The St. Cloud Community Wildlife Club leased the acre island from the St. Cloud Country Club and formally dedicated it in to long lines of curious sightseers. I've lived in the St. Cloud area most of my life. So of course, I know what the Beaver Islands are. But, aside from the view I get of them daily while crossing the University Bridge heading to and from my home in southeast St. Cloud, I really didn't know a whole lot about them.
