Teachers should exercise professional judgement in determining the suitability of teaching and learning experiences in meeting the needs of their students. These units are cumulative and are designed to be taught in numerical order. Students will explore the mentor concept of narrative and the supporting concept of characterisation through a deep text analysis. Throughout the unit students will develop a deeper understanding of narrative conventions and explore the interplay of plot, character and setting then apply this knowledge when creating their own texts. Throughout the unit students will understand that genre refers to texts that are grouped according to purpose, subject matter, form, structure and language choices. Students will plan, create and revise texts for considering perspective and context and informative purposes.

Where listening to texts read aloud is not accessible for students, they should be read to using their preferred communication form s.
