I assume it's a lithograph. The piece was left to us by a friend that passed away a few years ago. When we got it, we rolled it up, because our ceilings weren't high enough to hang it properly. Then we just unrolled it two years ago. We bought a new home, higher ceilings, and have been staring at it ever since in our living room and loving it. They actually burned down in the s. And this was an aqua park extravaganza, like Water World today. They had a total of seven baths, which could hold 1. It was filled at high tide. It took about an hour for the tides to fill the pools. They had slides. They had trapezes. They had high diving boards. They had three restaurants.

These items come from the collection of Marilyn Blaisdell, a respected historian of San Francisco photography, and well-loved proprietor of a shop at the Cliff House. Lauren Goldberg takes us through the history of the baths and shares a few highlights from the upcoming sale. Built near his famous Cliff House, the baths occupied a stunning location off the coast of California. There were slides, trapezes, springboards and a high dive. Together the pools held 1. There were 20, bathing suits and 40, towels for rent. An amphitheater, seating up to 3, people, provided a variety of stage shows. Three restaurants could accommodate 1, people at a sitting. There were natural-history exhibits, galleries of sculptures, paintings, tapestries and artifacts from Mexico, China, Asia, and the Middle East.

Adolph Sutro , the self-made millionaire who designed Sutro Heights and later the second Cliff House , developed the amazing Sutro Baths in With his special interest in natural history and marine studies, he constructed an ocean pool aquarium among the rocks north of the Cliff House. Sutro then expanded his ocean front complex by constructing a massive public bathhouse that covered three acres and boasted impressive engineering and artistic details.
