The future of Western Australia's premier surfing event is in limbo after local residents objected to the continued staging of the Margaret River Pro. The annual event has been a fixture on the ASP and WSL calendar more than thirty years, and draws the cream of international surfing and thousands of spectators to Margaret River and the surrounding South West each year. But with the World Surf League's five-year permit to hold the event in Margaret River now up for review, the Shire of Augusta Margaret River has reserved its decision on whether to continue its support for the event from next year on. A period of public consultation that finished in October drew 69 objections, 48 statements of support, and 24 indifferent responses. While the event is fully funded for next year, council support is still required for the competition organisers to access the public land and infrastructure where the competition takes place. The WSL has made a variety of community support commitments as part of it's ongoing proposal, including environmental and recycling programs on site, the engagement of local suppliers and businesses and the general promotion of the region's tourist attractions in the lead-up to the event.

So although this gallery is short of people riding waves it gives a great indication of size on Good Friday. To check more of Louis' work visit his website. Yet as good as the surf was at Mainbreak - and at 6'-8' and offshore it was pretty damn good! The Box was throwing out meaty slabs for a hungry horde, amongst them Kelly Slater who attracted an armada of boats and even a heliicopter to document his session. As far as summers go West Oz is having a cracker. While there's been nothing huge they've been copping plenty of mid-range swell with good conditions to boot. Last week our Margaret River reporter, Calvin Best, swum out to his local to photograph a few of the lads at close range. In typical style the natives are riding longer boards, taking off late and laying a bucketload of rail.

Where are we off to next? Griff was overscored against John. You may have noticed all the closeout sets breaking on their heads all day today. But you wont catch them on a 6'2" let alone perform. Everybody seems to be on "great let the goat keep surfing". Weak sauce and, until he gets his shot, JusticeforRamzi. I wonder if he will become surfing's Ricky Henderson toiling in some obscure contests until he's physically unable to surf still thinking he can make it back to the bigs Giving a spot to Sally was mocking, a farewell tour for the GOAT is fitting considering the alternative. The scales seemed consistently out of wack. Huge props to her for being one of the only women so far that i've seen on the world tour who has stepped up to the challenge of waves of consequence. It's interesting , I can't imagine many other activities that tell the largest exhibition event of the year to " fuck off" cause a few of the locals don't get to use a wave for 4 or 5 days of the year. While we were contemplating the beautiful record and waiting for the fireworks, Griff spiked a set with three turns and a closeout hit for an 8. Not decided at onshore slop in Trestles. He made most of them. The future of Western Australia's premier surfing event is in limbo after local residents objected to the continued staging of the Margaret River Pro.
Hawaii turned on thanks to the perfect, peak season sand or lack thereof and consistent mid-period swell, and over Easter they scored the best run of waves the Surf Coast had seen in six months. Even better, as the tour leaves town the rain and onshore winds are moving back in.
While there's been nothing huge they've been copping plenty of mid-range swell with good conditions to boot. Some years ago, the comp was on, the swell picked up and North fired. I cannot recall a year the WSL struggled to have anough competable days with the previously allowed waiting period. Please enable it to continue. As for comments made regarding pro from nobody local either such as a Denmark 5hrs away based surfing instructor When it is one of the top 10 waves on the planet. Surf fans dont want to watch the in betweeners ridden. PEDs means performance enhancing drugs so not specifically steroids. We have had our freedom reigned in. Fuck wsl and the Pro. Probably Rohan Annesley. The guy that's put more bums on seats than anyone ever, that's beaten generations of the world's best and is still standing, still competitive, willing and capable of one more trip around the block.
