Granted, I loved the twist about how Roger defeated K'Rhon and it was no big deal at all, and I loved the nonchalant epilogues at the end, and I really loved that the gas station just blows up and our heroes end up going on the road together, but I felt like so many things were just glossed over when they should have been given a little more time. As a big fan it was really frustrating to read a chapter and have to sit and research the last three books to figure out what the hell was going on, only to come up empty and more annoyed than when I started. Emotional, violent, weird, you name it! Anyone who read any of this series would know that's probably the most you can expect from the story. Book 4. It's so inconsistent when the characters are supposedly unflappable because everything about this is bonkers. Drunk customers. Do you like weird lit? Loading interface Then they lose their shit because a character offers tequila because Rosa is a Latina. Anyway, I really did enjoy a lot of this book thanks to the writing style and the ever-classic characters we know and love. I get that Jack is that writer who isn't going to tie everything up in a neat little bow which is one of the reasons I love his writing so much , but I still felt like we got robbed of a few things that really could have made this book have a beautiful ending.
Working at a dead-end retail job in the middle of nowhere can be hard. The long hours. The helpless customers.
Not all of the pieces make sense and a lot of it is based on the fact that you can't trust Jack's perception of reality. Shaman boogers, mushroom gummies and toad milk? I honestly think that pages could have been cut out. Heck, we don't even spend all that much time in the what's left of the gas station this time spoiler! It's so inconsistent when the characters are supposedly unflappable because everything about this is bonkers. Having said all that: even before beginning this one, I have to admit I was totally invested in these characters and Townsend delivers a tale that punches straight into those feels! As a big fan it was really frustrating to read a chapter and have to sit and research the last three books to figure out what the hell was going on, only to come up empty and more annoyed than when I started. As the new owner of the worst business in history, Jack has a lot on his plate. Nightshift clerk and high-functioning insomniac Jack is back to work, trying his best to keep out of trouble. Drunk customers. Thank you Mr. Armed with nothing but his wits, sarcasm, and alarming amounts of coffee, can Jack stay alive long enough to see another morning shift? Discover your next favorite series. The last book of one of my most favorite series and it did not disappoint one bit.
