The banshee labyrinth
Formerly the Nicol Edwards pub and nestled next to dive-club superstar The Hive, this sprawling subterranean vault has had a grizzly and gruesome makeover as The Banshee Labyrinth. It is made up of seven rooms, three bars, two jukeboxes, an underground dancefloor and a huge helping of of scintillatingly sinister alt-music. Take the right path through the catacombs and you might be lucky enough to end up in the Labyrinth's very own free! And, If your appetite hasn't quite been spooked out of you, perhaps you can sample a hotdog or some popcorn from the selection of movie grub they've got on offer. With its particularly reasonable room hire pricing, local bands and clubs can get involved without the woes of petrifying price tag, meaning there's usually something quirky going on any week of the year. And - because what self-respecting underground cavern is complete without some sort of fetish vibe - you can look forward some pretty raunchy events too. Billing itself as Edinburgh's most haunted venue, you might easily bump into a gremlin in Banshee's twisty, greenlit stone corridors but don't get too freaked out: he'll just be there for the music.
