Although The Hourglass is a relatively newly built pub, it still has a rustic and cosy atmosphere, yet an open and airy feel to the layout.

I have to say I found it a tadge hard to find, not being familiar with the edges of the town it's tucked away down what looks like a street leading onto an estate but I was pleasantly surprised when we got there. The inside is large and light-filled, thanks to big windows leading out to the terrace overlooking the Kennet and Avon. It was a sunny day, so we made the most of it by sitting outside with our drinks and catching up on the gossip. Abandoning the healthy eating plan, I decided that at least there was salad as well as chips to go with it. We chatted away and when our food arrived tucked in. The wrap was pronounced as success, but I was a bit disappointed with the mine - the two generous rounds of goats cheese had only been grilled lightly, so they weren't as runny as I like, and the advertised garlic bread seemed to have been replaced by slices off a granary bloomer.

He is a Swizz chef and restaurateur who was Maitre Chef des Cuisines at the Dorchester Hotel for thirteen years, during which time its restaurant achieved a rating of two stars in the Michelin Guide. I think the whole plant based trend is interesting as well as the fusion trend of adding this, that and the other together. I like being able to use locally produced foods wherever possible. The Hourglass menu planning is very collaborative but I drive the process. We have a lovely cook off so that all the staff can taste every item on the menu which means they can recommend or advise customers. I try to accommodate wherever possible. I pride myself on almost always being able to change a few ingredients so that a meal is very much as ordered. I think we will continue down the road of eating less meat and poultry and eating more fresh vegetables and whole foods. It has new owners and is bursting with fresh ideas.

My family and I were trying out our kayaks on the Kennet and Avon Canal. We put in at Devizes Warfe, then paddled here at a relaxed pace for just over an hour. When we saw the hour glass we couldn't believe our luck! There is chilled background music which is unobtrusive and adds to the ambiance. The staff were very friendly and attentive, they took our drinks order and offered us a well priced menu. The beer was well kept and my wife had a latte. The children enjoyed the normal selection of soft drinks.

We were all so impressed with our meals, cooked to perfection and priced amazingly for what we had eaten.
