Gargamel creates Smurfette to destroy the Smurfs and sends her to the village. Gargamel rants and raves from the tower in his castle toward the giggling he hears from within the forest , the happiness he feels that he so dearly despises, the happiness he knows is coming from the Smurfs. With a desire to destroy that happiness, Gargamel studies a chart he has of a Smurf to examine their weaknesses, and stumbles upon one possible weakness he can exploit: their big hearts. Taking a lump of blue clay and combining it with various ingredients such as crocodile tears, sugar and spice, but nothing nice, half a pack of lies, the chatter of a magpie, and a hard stone for a heart, Gargamel brings to life his weapon for destroying the Smurfs through their hearts -- a Smurfette. The next day, Hefty leads a group of male Smurfs into the forest to gather smurfberries , having every Smurf choose a direction to go off in for this task, when Hefty hears the voice of a female crying. He then sees what appears to be a short black-haired female Smurf sitting on a mushroom all by herself. The female says that she's a Smurfette and that she was looking for a way to the Smurf Village.

Smurfette was created by the evil wizard Gargamel , the Smurfs' archenemy , in order to spy on them and sow jealousy. However, she decides that she wants to be a real Smurf and Papa Smurf casts a spell that changes her hair from black to blonde as a sign of her transformation. A Granny Smurf was also later introduced, although it is unclear how she was created. Thierry Culliford, the son of the comics' creator, Peyo , and current head of the Studio Peyo, announced in that more female Smurfs would be introduced in the stories. She is the love interest of almost every Smurf. The adventure of Smurfette first started in Spirou magazine in She was made by Gargamel the evil wizard as a means to create unrest in the Smurf village. When this was discovered, Papa Smurf succeeded in turning her into a real Smurf, altering her appearance at the same time. She still was a source of problems between the Smurfs, though, and at the end of this story, she left the Smurf village, thus restoring the status quo of the community. She made the occasional on-off appearance, but when the animated TV series of the Smurfs was introduced in the s, she was featured as a permanent character, appearing in stories in which she was not included in the original source comics. Subsequently, the comics also started to feature her as a permanent character.

The smurfette episode

Smurfette asks Mother Nature for a blue rose, but the spell takes the blue color from her. Smurfette and Vanity are out in the forest examining the wild roses growing on the bushes, with Smurfette asking Vanity if he's seen anything more beautiful than wild roses and Vanity answering that it is he himself. Vanity sees that Smurfette loves the variety of roses and suggests that she should pick some to bring home as a bouquet, but Smurfette says she could never pick wild roses because they're just too lovely. Then she sees a white rose and says how exquisite it is, though Vanity says it would have to be a blue rose in order to come close to his beauty. Smurfette at first scolds Vanity for voicing such a thought, but then it intrigues her as she has never actually seen a blue rose. Meanwhile, the Smurflings are enjoying a day of swimming as Handy is watching over them and Baby Smurf while playing fetch with Puppy and teaching him how to sit.

However, after the death of the mouse, she became heartbroken and tearfully leaves the village. October 5, Bluebeak the parrot pirate obtains the clamulet which puts some of the Smurfs under a spell as his slaves. Smurfette proves to be a true Smurf when she saves the others from Gargamel. But before he could close up the dam, Smurfette forces the gate to remain open, fighting with Greedy for control over the switch. No one believes Hefty when he claims to have seen a sea serpent in the Scotland lake except for the evil Angus McGarg. Gargamel switches ages with Scruple and befriends the Smurflings.
