Interdisciplinary programs in Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies and Microbiology are available for specialized concentrations. These all have quite similar prerequisite programs and, with a carefully chosen program, it is relatively easy to transfer from one to another.

The biological science degree allows students to tailor their program of study to fit the needs of most, if not all, colleges and universities offering a degree in biology or the biological sciences. Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution prior to attending medical, dental, veterinary, physical therapy, podiatry, or chiropractic school will find all or most of the prerequisite courses needed for admission to these professional schools. Students planning to transfer to pharmacy, medical technology, or optometry school programs that accept students after two years of undergraduate education will find all the courses needed for admission into these programs. Students are strongly advised to work closely with a biology or chemistry faculty member or an academic transfer counselor in order to select courses that will prevent or minimize the loss of credits upon transfer. The program advising guide outlines the degree requirements and is meant to supplement the advising process. MC has a long history of successfully preparing students for transfer to four-year institutions. Biological science majors are strongly advised to work closely with a biology or chemistry faculty member or an academic transfer counselor in order to select courses that will prevent or minimize the loss of credits upon transfer.

All of our undergraduate programs are designed to be completed within four years. Many students are interested in public health in a broad sense so we encourage you to review all of our four-year plans and checklists to see which major would be the best fit for you. We have walk-in advising hours as well as appointments that can be scheduled for prospective students if you would like to discuss any of these majors further. Below you will find sample templates of how to structure your progress through any of our majors. Major benchmarks are your responsibility to understand, remember, and schedule. Missing a benchmark may result in dismissal from your major so it is important to take them seriously. Please note, some benchmarks have changed depending on the semester you declared your major. The School of Public Health has a committee that reviews benchmarks every semester. If you are not enrolled in or missing a benchmark course, you will be contacted by the CASA office.
