After abducting James, the pair led the toddler on a two-and-a-half mile walk from the city of Liverpool to a village called Walton. On their way to the village, the three were seen by 38 people, two of whom queried the boys as the young boy was in tears with a bump on his head. Later the pair brutally tortured and killed the two-year-old, leaving James' mutilated body to be found two days later on a railway line in Walton. But what have the pair done since they committed the notoriously horrific crime? But in June after intense rehabilitation and a six month review, a parole board determined the then year-olds were no longer a threat to public safety. After spending eight years behind bars for the murder of James Bulger, the killers were released on a life licence. They were also handed new identities to protect them from vigilante attacks. They were also barred from ever entering Liverpool again. The pair were given a lifetime of anonymity via court injunctions, also known as Mary Bell orders.
