War Selection is an addicting pseudo-historical massive multi-player RTS game that builds upon game play elements developed by other previous major games in the genre such as Age of Empires, Rise of Nations, Empire Earth, etc. It was initially released on Steam on October 8th, and is currently free-to-play in its alpha stage of development. In general, War Selection is a classic RTS game that focuses on macroeconomic, technological, cultural and military development culminating in huge militaristic clashes between up to 62 other human players.

Players battle for supremacy against dozens of opponents on a unique procedurally generated map. Every player starts in the Stone Age. During the course of the match, the player is at first able to select a particular culture, and then a specific country. This allows to showcase the entire historical diversity of human civilization within the game. Each evolutionary path brings its own unique game experience. Depending on that path, game mechanics and other possibilities are expanded. Having passed through 7 historical eras, the player reaches the age of heavy tanks and long-range artillery. The game features more than buildings and more than distinct land, air and naval units. Survival — A mode where you need to survive against hordes of enemies; Free for all; Ranked 1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2; Team match; Armageddon — A Battle Royale flavored mode where players with the least amount of territory are bombarded by meteors until only one player remains. This is a Beginner's guide designed to run through the basics of War Selection on Steam. This guide does not cover more advanced topics and is designed to a be a primer and introduction to the game for new players. Each of these has different characteristics corresponding distinct individual strategies. For more general information on these game modes please see the Game Modes page. Eventually I'll get around to writing specific guides for these other game modes, but I'm not there yet :D. War Selection is an Early Access Steam title with some lofty ideas. That sentence is enough to scare many gamers away right out. However, developer Glyph Worlds knows what it's doing for the most part. The gameplay takes some of the best elements from Age of Empires or Civilization , with more emphasis on combat. That's because it has battle royale blood in it. Up to 62 players can participate in one match. The only thing holding War Selection back from true greatness, aside from typical Early Access bugs, is its ill-advised payment model. Like many other historical RTS games, War Selection puts you in charge of a civilization at its birth. You can take your people from the Stone Age to the Industrial age, assuming you survive that long. Leadership involves both putting troops into battle and managing the civilization's resources.
