Wendy and axe

By Lynette Rice. Do not read this unless you have watched the series finale of Billions on Showtime. Sadly, questions about Billions spinoffs were verboten.

By Cynthia Littleton. Axelrod, played with gusto until the final frame by Damian Lewis, winds up on top. As is to be expected, the finale features a lot of reflection among key characters on who they are as people — who they have been in the past, and where they are headed in the future. For the grand battle, Axelrod and Rhoades teamed up to help Axelrod exact revenge against Prince for the coup that Prince pulled against Axelrod at the end of Season 5. That forced Axe out of the country and allowed Prince to take over the ashes of Axe Capital. Rhoades wanted to nab Axe for violating the federal rules of high-finance, whereas Axelrod always saw his efforts not in the dim light of insider trading but as going the extra mile to understand the market.

Unless someone knows you, which I have. Damian Lewis and Maggie Siff bring to life one of the most intriguing and complex relationships we have ever seen on TV. It is sincere and it is strategic. It is friendly and it is flirty. It is personal and it is professional. It is delicate. It is difficult. It is delicious. The first three seasons reveal no romance in the relationship, but a real partnership. Bobby and Wendy find meaning in what they built together and can draw the best out of each other. In case you missed my earlier posts on these two, you can read them here , here , here , here , here , here , here , and here. I know I am in the tiny little minority that is not a big fan of Bobby and Wendy as a romantic couple. And I really think that Wendy has diagnosed the situation right in the quote at the beginning of this post: it is Chuck that impels Bobby and Wendy together…. Chuck still remembers the good old days where they would get away from the wedding like McQueen and MacGraw in The Getaway.

As it turns out, the company is basically fraud central — and all the evidence is on Wendy's iPad. Bobby is now obsessed with Wendy. He would stay in his job forever?

All of which is entertaining even before you consider some of the uncanny parallels to the real corporate world. One unexpected appeal is that Billions has made my job easier to explain. Well, it has brought performance psychology into the mainstream and showing that performance psychology is very distinct from clinical psychology. You might say a clinical psychologist helps equip us with the skills to be mentally healthy while a performance psychologist helps us with the skills to mentally thrive. I want to be very clear that the techniques of performance psychology are not for everyone. For those suffering depression, anxiety or any other very common mental illness and about half of the population experience mental ill health in their lifetime , the first step is to get mentally healthy.

As the folk troubadour once said, the times they are certainly changing. After an indeterminate amount of time spent working from home, all the Ax Cap employees are now back in the office wearing masks and social distancing. There are more changes on the horizon, too, as Axe completely overhauls Axe Cap's structure so he can get his bank off the ground. That means some of the employees won't make it through the transition, and some will have new titles.

Synonym for lack

And that is what these Bobby and Wendy have. He realises that Prince Capital's holdings are empty, and he's even been locked out of his own account. It is delicious. Axe has been orchestrating the end of Wendy — Tanner relationship for a while and it now costs him four paintings! Look at him, Axe treats the live camera as a TV show to binge — the man even has his dinner in front of the screen! Well, it has brought performance psychology into the mainstream and showing that performance psychology is very distinct from clinical psychology. But let's get back to where it started. And now, he is saying things like he needs to come clean about why he hated Wendy and Tanner together… Wendy knows what is coming but she first needs to get Chuck out of the way. Then I just stand up and go through the slide deck. And maybe, just maybe, he will win if he wins over her.

One may think that Axe is getting sarcastic with Wendy because he hired Tanner to create a series of paintings for him and the first work he sees from him is a drawing of Wendy on bed after sex. We saw the worst version of Bobby Axelrod ever in the show when he ended his relationship with Rebecca. And I really think that Wendy has diagnosed the situation right in the quote at the beginning of this post: it is Chuck that impels Bobby and Wendy together…. So Wendy unknowingly drags Bobby into cannabis business. I want to be very clear that the techniques of performance psychology are not for everyone. And Axe is of course there to inquire with Wendy about how Tanner is doing… Wendy hesitates but finally spills the beans: Tanner is a bit off. We also learn that it was Rhoades' dad Chuck Sr.
