As the levels progress, players must explore each stage to find helpless citizens and recruit them to join their army of heroes. The more heroes gathered, the greater the special morph powers can be. At the cost of depleting their battery meter, players can use "Unite Morph" forms to defeat enemies, solve puzzles, or traverse the environment.

Enemies will also drop "O parts" the in-game currency used to buy upgradesnew "Unite Wonderful 101 abilities and items.

The game is already good to go across the Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4, suggesting that the crowdfunding effort may not have been strictly necessary. But no matter: the release of a lost cult classic to a wider audience is cause for celebration. In many ways, yeah. I do like this game a lot. The Wonderful is the work of PlatinumGames, the studio behind games like Bayonetta , Metal Gear Rising , and Astral Chain , and it has a typically intricate combat system. All of this sounds like the perfect formula for a classic Platinum character action game. Most of the game happens from a zoomed-out perspective, with your character leading an army of dozens of heroes. The game looks more like Pikmin than Bayonetta at a distance.

The Wonderful is a breezy, demented action game in which you battle alien invaders as an army of vinyl superheroes who can merge and transform themselves into weapons. Think Pikmin, but Captain Olimar is played by the Green Lantern, and you're tossing around Avengers instead of seedlings. The transforming, aka Unite Morphing, ought to be the highlight but is sadly a bit broken.
