The easiest solution to gear disparity. Extremely simple, just match make or tier the BGs. New 90's use BGs to gear up, but it is not fun and extremely frustrating to play vs fully geared people with just the contender's set. Simply tier the BGs by ilvl. That way, even a fresh 90 would be able to contribute and have fun. People would stop complaining about how hard catch up is.

Used it on my level 60 Death Knight and it replaced my ilvl gear with ilvl , and my 32 slot bags with 22 slot bags. So worth it. It seems this Welcome Back Gift counts as a boost service like the level boost and will lock your character out of other services like race changes or realm transfers. It could also affect Allied race alts from unlocking their heritage armor but I'm unable to test this since I've done all the Heritage armors awhile ago. If you have upgraded heirlooms this really isn't worth it. Tried it on one char and as someone else mentioned, the gear given was quite a bit below what my char was wearing.
