Today I will be giving advice on how you could improve your confidence when speaking English in preparation for studying abroad, especially if you are thinking of coming to the University of Surrey. The most common advices you have probably heard are too listen to English music, read more, watch films with subtitles and so on. I am sure you have heard these advices before from teachers or friends because they are useful. My advice is to try to communicate as much as you can. Even if you make mistakes, you can only learn through speaking. Last year, I took an extra French course and even though I was shy at the start, I understood that by speaking and making mistakes, you learn more quicker than you think. With mistakes you learn, and with mistakes you advance. So when you think about it, a lot of people are on the same boat as you! The comfort of not being judged by people who are fluent in English makes learning all the more beneficial and easy. As a fluent English speaker, I can understand the difficulties of trying to communicate in a foreign language.
