Yondu Udonta was the Centaurian leader of an exiled faction of the Ravagers and the adoptive father of Peter Quill. When Quill betrayed the Ravagers and stole the Orb for himself, Udonta led the hunt for his former ally. Eventually, Udonta caught up with Quill, but he was convinced to help him in the battle against Ronan the Accuser , who was threatening to use the Power Stone to destroy Xandar , with Quill ensuring Udonta did not get the Infinity Stone at the end. Despite losing the stone, Udonta chose not to get revenge against Quill, leading to mistrust among all of his own clan. Udonta's clan turned against their former captain and put their trust instead in Taserface.
Yondu Udonta is the leader of the Ravagers , a band of space-faring mercenaries, and a member of the Centaurian race. Yondu was hired by Peter Quill 's father to abduct the boy from Earth, a mission he completed in just moments after the death of Meredith Quill. While originally hired to return Quill to his father, Yondu instead opted to raise the boy as his own. Throughout the next 26 years, Yondu, Quill and the rest of the Ravagers completed several jobs together. In , Yondu discovered the location of a valuable artifact known as the Orb. He planned to retrieve the Orb and sell it to The Broker, but Quill decided to double cross him and complete the deal on his own. The MCU is a dangerous place, and while its heroes are capable of some incredible things, death comes for us all. During a recent Marvel rewatch, I tasked myself with finding the most notable death this franchise has delivered to date, and while my assumption going in was that nothing was going to top Tony Stark's sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame , there is another far greater: the demise of Michael Rooker 's Yondu. If we're talking pound-for-pound greatness, Yondu Udonta doesn't hold a candle to Tony Stark or many other Marvel heroes in several categories. For those who re-watch the film, this isn't hard to see why, but for those pressed for time, I've laid it out about as plainly as I can below. The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie gave us a taste of Yondu and what he was about, but it's fair to say his real story doesn't start until the second movie. Yondu, clearly bothered by his alienation from the greater Ravager community , lost his crew when his refusal to turn over Peter Quill to the Sovereign made him look soft. Kraglin unwittingly started a mutiny, and Taserface eliminated Yondu's remaining support, with the leader defeated and behind bars on the ship.
