Under unknown circumstances, she was possessed by a mysterious Dark Continent creature, which her family named Nanika. The two currently share Alluka's body. Due to her not being able of her own abilities because of Nanika, Silva describes her being dark and uncontrollable child. He even goes as far, claiming that Alluka has no soul because of the circumstances of her birth, and cannot feel emotions, saying that she is not human. However, once reunited with her closest brother Killua, Alluka displays an affectionate, simple, and lovable personality. Alluka is usually very happy around Killua and trusts him deeply, likely because he was the only one to show her compassion. She usually calls Killua "big brother," but if Nanika is talking, she calls him by his first name.
