I just purchased the Arlo Pro System a few weeks ago and It appears that I had left the charger and charging cable in the arlo charger cable when I discarded the packaging, arlo charger cable.

Apparently the camera can tell if an "outdoor" cable is being used or not, as I get the message "The camera and light are disabled while charging" if I use any of my other Arlo magnetic cables, including 2 others that I bought from Amazon that claim to be "outdoor" cables. Does only the official Arlo 25ft magnetic outdoor cable work to keep the camera charged while using it? I bought the 3rd party cables because they were shorter, and my camera is located right next to a power outlet, so a 25 foot cable would not be optimal. So I just ordered the official outdoor 25ft cable. I will find out if what the camera is detecting is the cable itself, or the power adapter that it comes with.

I have arlo pro 4 cameras that are all mounted outside but out of the weather. They are under an eve and I will be running power cables inside. Question is, can I use indoor power cables for this? I see comments on many 3rd party cables that it won't work, some say the cameras don't record while connected or it throws an error saying you have to use an outdoor cable. Is any of that true? I haven't had any trouble with that. The Pro 3 Floodlight will detect if you're using an official outdoor cable and won't operate while charging unless the correct cable is used. The original Pro 3 will work with a 3rd party outdoor cable. I can't comment on the Pro 4 re. The difference between an indoor and outdoor cable is in the plastic used in the insulation outdoor cables are resistant to UV light and so won't 'rot' become brittle over time in direct sunlight and in a little rubber seal on the magnetic connector that keeps moisture out.

I have five of the Arlo Pro 2 cameras all on permanent charge via the power adapters using long charge cables all installed within conduits etc. The cameras are still connected for video feed via wireless to the base station though. All this has worked pretty much flawlessly since I've had it. The thought is that I'd like to upgrade to the Arlo pro 4 to get a better video quality So I spoke to Arlo support and they said that the Arlo 4 and the Arlo 2 draw the same current and voltage, BUT the power connector in the back of the Arlo 4 is different to the Arlo 2.

I have 2 Arlo Pro 4 attached under eves using the Arlo 8 ft indoor cables and it works fine. That's a great suggestion. The replacement product works as advertised and is new.
