User Name Remember Me? Is it safe to connect a 6 ohm speaker to an amp designed for an 8 ohm load? I probably wouldn't connect a 4 ohm speaker to an 8 ohm output and I had expected 4 ohm and 8 ohm to be the standard impedance, but two pairs of speakers I have come across recently both have a 6 ohm impedance rating. Last edited by WaveyDipole; 2nd Dec at pm. Re: 8 ohm output into a 6 ohm load? What sort of an amp is it? In general you should be fine from an amp safety point of view - the impedance of a nominally 8 ohm speaker can easily dip below 4 ohms and rise above 30 ohms depending on the audio frequency. I suppose problems might arise if you're pushing a fragile solid-state amp very hard, in which case the output stage might overheat. But apart from that I'd expect no failures. You might not meet the distortion or power output specs with the wrong impedance load, but again I wouldn't expect any problems to be severe. Cheers, GJ.

Yes, you can mix 6 ohm and 8 ohm speakers. For that, firstly check the receiver. See if it has the option to set the ohms to 6 or 8. Next, scan the amplifier specs to detect the ratings. It will even pump out better power at lower ohms ratings. Perhaps down to 4 or even 2 ohms. Still confused? Well, we got you! We have answered all of your possible queries in this article.

The 6-ohm speaker is the perfect speaker for smaller spaces. The 8-ohm receiver is the perfect receiver for larger spaces. These two speakers can each receive 6 Watts per channel which is typical for most music hearth applications.

Well, you are really interested in building a quality system, so you are wondering about choosing 8-ohm vs 6-ohm speakers. You need to know what your system is capable of.
