After seeing the same build I ordered minus roof at the lot, it looks like the centre console work surface that folds out over the folding shifter is just a hinge and latch. Hear me out. The centre console over storage lid is massive in thicness. It looks like it's also just empty and could be removed with relative ease, to separate it in 2 pieces, put a hinge and boom. The new Ford F has no shortage of party tricks, but the star of the interior show is without a doubt what Ford calls the "Interior Work Surface" option. This is a rather dull name for the feature, if you ask us, especially since it's describing a fold-out center console table and stow-away gear selector. With the push of a button, the gear selector stows away into a recess in the center console, allowing the table to be folded forward from the armrest and creating a completely flat work surface large enough to accommodate paperwork or even a small laptop. Center Console. Thread Tools. Daniel Michaud. I noticed that some of the F's had a fold out table that would open either way. One was to just open to have access to the inner storage and the other was to lift it from the back and it would fold out to a nice table. My new truck didn't have that.
