My recent visit to San Francisco has once again proved that, it is hard to find good Cantonese food elsewhere in North America matching what we have in Greater Vancouver. But they seem to have solved the issue by borrowing the space in their sister Japanese restaurant next door for the overflowing Dim Sum goers. Everything about this dish was spot-on including the colour, the texture, and the taste. I love the bright green bits of watercress that makes it so pretty to look at, and so darn delicious with the extra freshness and sweetness. As the use of seafood is predominant in Cantonese cuisine, shrimp is probably the most common ingredient in Dim Sum. I really enjoyed all of their dishes with shrimp, such as Har Gow shrimp dumpling , Shrimp Spring Roll and Fun Guo Chiuchow Style Dumling as the shrimps in them have that snappy crunch indicating how fresh and perfectly cooked they are.

Oct Posted by pennyandrusty. We came to Grand Dynasty Seafood Restaurant on an early Sunday morning for dim sum they open at am. Located next to the Grand Villa Casino in Burnaby, there is plenty of free parking in the nearby lot. Unlike some dim sum joints, this restaurant looked rather refined by comparison. The small tables were actually real tables and not some makeshift mahjong table covered with plywood. The dinnerware actually matched and all of the seatcovers appeared to be clean. Of course, being a Chinese restaurant, there were always a few oddities such as the noticeable spelling mistakes on the menu. The other strange thing was that they were playing a Kenny G Christmas album the whole time we were dining… in the middle of summer! Instead of coming with squash like at some other restaurants, the Steamed Spareribs in Black Bean Sauce here are served with taro chunks. I was a bit disappointed with the Deep Fried Taro Dumplings as they seemed a little overcooked and I was distracted by the inclusion of pine nuts in the filling. Usually when we order Mango Pudding, the cream or evaporated milk is served separately but at Grand Dynasty, they pour it out before they bring you the dish. This was an exceptional dessert and came in a large bowl with real mango pieces.

Egg tart: The egg tarts were warm and delicious with a nice flaky shell. Anyways, moving on to the taste… it was tasty, no complaints.

It was a special occasion, so my parents, boyfriend and I decided to try a different and more upscale Chinese restaurant for dim sum. A good thing about this place is that there is lots of free parking! But we wanted to try this place, so we waited and looked at the menu. It actually ended up only being a 20 minute wait so yay!
