Friday in Hempstead when Nassau County Police said the driver behind the wheel of a Chrysler hit a car occupied by four people near Fulton and Hilton avenues. Authorities said the driver then took off before hitting three more cars on Fulton Avenue after running a red light at Main Street. The Chrysler "caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames," police said. Two people inside the charred Chrysler died at the scene.
The speed limit on the street is 30 miles per hour, but authorities say the driver was travelling at a much higher rate of speed. Clearly devastated and heartbroken family members wailed as they arrived at the scene. Detectives say the vehicle was traveling northbound near Oak Street when the driver, an year-old female, hit a parked nursery truck that appears to have belonged the Westminster Florist business nearby. The impact caused the SUV to spin and flip several times, ejecting year-old Kurtis Caesar and year-old Amanda Arguinzoni -- both passengers -- who did not survive.
