Interestingly, while icons from the s were frequently revived by the Big Three, Holden went back further and brought out this wild concept inspired by its FJ of the s. However, while the lines were distinctly post-war, the technology under the skin was definitely rooted in the 21 st century. Unfortunately though, the point of the Efijy was to celebrate the 50 th anniversary of the FJ, which first went on sale in The basic exterior design may have been straight from the s, but there were plenty of 21 st century twists applied.

While Efijy wowed all those who saw it, it is in all reality a show car of the sort that is unveiled at any motor show around the world, the difference in the case of the Holden eye-popper being that the body is a look back at the past instead of a glimpse of the future. Like the old Cadillac, the classic 50s Holden had the form that fitted the custom mould. From there, with the blessing of his bosses, he made a one-third scale model. That gave the three-dimensional shape and form that allowed him to refine it further before moving on to a full-size model that would be the launch pad to reality. As with all cars created within a design studio, the full-sized clay is the crucial point in the project where the details of the final shape are worked out. Built on a steel bed the core of the clay, the armature, is constructed from foam and roughly cut to shape before the clay is laid on and carefully moulded exactly to the final shape. It was designed to be a platform to accept a fibreglass body just as Efijy was conceived, it had state-of-the-art independent suspension front and rear that could be modified for airbags.

Holden has long led the way when it comes to show-stopping concept cars in Australia with eye-poppers such as the Hurricane and GTR-X in the 60s and 70s, and the Monaro coupe that blew everyone away at the Sydney Motor Show.
